Last Tuesday, I spoke alongside some truly inspirational scientists who blew me away with their research, enthusiasm and depth of knowledge. The event was called Science & Storytelling and focused on people with different backgrounds and areas of expertise coming together to discuss the importance of promoting science.
Summer Ash is an astrophysicist and the Director of Outreach for Columbia University’s Department of Astronomy. It was amazing hearing her talk with infectiously charismatic astrophysicist, Jedidah Isler, about black holes and blazars.
Francis Slakey is a Georgetown physics professor who heads up an energy prize to reward community sustainability and combat climate change.
Mike Rugnetta is the wickedly talented writer and host of PBS Idea Channel and a very good friend of mine.
I could listen to Hopi Hoekstra talk about her research with mice all day. Her lab at Harvard studies absolutely everything about genetic adaptation from morphology to behavior. Discussing what we can learn about our genes through the study of mice is nothing short of fascinating.
Emily Carter sold me on fusion energy. She is the founding director of the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment at Princeton University. Her insights into renewable energy are incredible.
Finally our moderator for the event was Law & Order: SVU writer, Samantha Corbin-Miller.
It was a great event and I hope to keep in touch with many of these brilliant minds leading the charge for discovery, innovation and learning.
